Problématique: Clinicians’ relationships with their clients/patients are central to promoting healing in those they serve, regardless of their profession. Psychologists, physicians and allied health care clinicians choose their respective professions with the intention to relieve suffering. Unfortunately, for many, over the course of the years of training and practice empathy wanes, compassion fatigue sets in and burnout makes it difficult to provide relationship-centered care.
Besoin : When burdened with emotional exhaustion and a low sense of accomplishment or satisfaction mistakes are made, inter-professional relationships become strained, and the overall quality of patient care may be inadvertently compromised. Recent changes and constraints in the health care system have exacerbated these issues. Some choose to abandon the field, leaving those who remain with more to do and less support.
